Manchester United star ‘desperate’ to stay at club schedules talks with hierarchy over his future

After all signs pointed towards him leaving Old Trafford last summer, Harry Maguire is reportedly keen to avoid a similar situation this time around.

The Manchester United player, who was greatly out of favour when Erik ten Hag began his stint in 2022–2023, is coming off of a strong campaign in his sophomore year.

Unfortunately, the crippling injury issue this season has forced Maguire to play virtually every week. For comparison, he started 16 games in all last season and 25 in the previous nine months in addition to another six off the bench. However, he was unable to play in 17 games due to injury.

Since the contracts of Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane, his fellow center-halves, expire in June, the team will need to add players during the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the position.

When Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. begin drawing up their plans for how Ten Hag’s backline may look after the summer, Maguire, who has one year remaining on his contract, wants to ensure that he’s a part of that. Reports claim that the England international is ‘desperate’ to stay at United for the foreseeable future and has scheduled talks with the hierarchy to discuss his situation.

Until then, the 31-year-old has chosen to skip a family holiday to report early for international duty in hopes of recovering from injury in time to feature at the Euros, which kicks off on June 14.
