Manuel Ugarte sends Man United clear message that Gary Neville will love amid transfer links

Manchester United’s summer transfer window is in full swing and, with Joshua Zirkzee’s arrival looking close, Erik ten Hag will soon be looking to solve another pressing concern in his squad.

At the end of the season, Ten Hag was under no illusions about the need to strengthen the centre of the pitch. Casemiro was brilliant in his first campaign at Old Trafford but the drop-off last year was alarming and led many to think a defensive midfielder is going to be next on the horizon.

One player who has been heavily linked with the move to the Premier League is Manuel Ugarte. PSG are reportedly open to selling the Uruguayan and a fee of £50m could be enough to secure his services.

The 23-year-old made headlines this weekend as he showed incredible guts to score the winning penalty to knock Brazil out of Copa America. Having seen England comfortably dispatched penalties in their own quarter-final this weekend, it could be easy to argue that this is a relatively limited accomplishment.

However, it is no small feat to step up to the penalty spot in a pressure scenario and it requires qualities which Gary Neville believed the Reds lacked last year. Speaking in December ahead of United’s clash with Liverpool, Neville said: “The thing Manchester United have to fear the most is that Liverpool are a professional bunch.
