Mason Greenwood ‘says yes’ to summer move as Man Utd offered swap deal to cut price tag

According to reports, Mason Greenwood has given the go-ahead to join Juventus this summer; however, the Bianconeri are hoping Manchester United will reduce their asking price. If United is unwilling to lower their asking price for the 22-year-old, who made an impression when on loan at Getafe last season, a promising player might be included in the deal.

With just one year left on his Red Devils deal, Greenwood’s team is hoping to recover up to £34 million for the academy product. Due to the price, Juventus is in a difficult situation, and key Turin figures are allegedly looking for methods to cut the deal’s cost.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, including Samuel Iling-Junior in part-exchange is one of the ‘ideas’ Juventus chiefs have come up with.

Tottenham were heavily linked with Iling-Junior, who has been on Juve’s books since 2020 but came through Chelsea’s academy. And the north Londoners were reportedly quoted £15.5m when they came sniffing around in January.

In the event that Greenwood and Jadon Sancho both depart Old Trafford this summer, the 20-year-old might provide United with an additional wide option. Federico Chiesa joining Juventus in the Greenwood deal has also been mentioned as a potential inclusion.

As Chiesa’s Serie A contract nears its end, Juventus will be fighting to keep him in the summer of 2025 rather than losing him for nothing. The Italian powerhouses’ situation has become more challenging due to the financial commitment required to sign Greenwood, but at least they have hope based on the player’s alleged perspective.

Knowing he won’t be going back to Getafe, where he finished the previous season with 10 goals and 6 assists, and knowing he won’t be staying at United, Greenwood is reportedly growing more comfortable with the thought of relocating to Turin.

The forward is held in “high regard” by Thiago Motta, the new manager of Juventus, but funding is still a problem. This summer, the Bianconeri are already getting close to signing Michele Di Gregorio as a custodian; their next top objective is to bolster their midfield.

The star of Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz, is a hot commodity in that area, but Juve would have even less money if he signed Greenwood. According to reports, Villa wants £42.5 million for the Brazilian, but they might back down if Weston McKennie is added.

Greenwood hasn’t participated in a United game since an off-field incident in January 2022. The youthful player appears to be out of time at Old Trafford despite scoring 35 goals in 129 games for the Red Devils.
