Not great news for Ten Hag as Fabrizio Romano discloses what INEOS are doing during season review

Even Manchester United’s 13th FA Cup title victory cannot take away from the team’s terrible season-long performance.

The Premier League finish of the Red Devils was eighth, which was their lowest ever result in the tournament, and they were immediately eliminated from Europe. Additionally, the team lost in the Round of 16 in the Carabao Cup, failing to defend its title.

Although injuries undoubtedly contributed significantly to the poor performances, manager Erik ten Hag’s tactical decisions seriously damaged his team.

Knowing the players he had at his disposal, the Dutchman still pressed ahead with his flawed high-transition system and it failed miserably right from the first game of the season.

EtH’s future

After the number of injuries continued to rise, it was assumed that the former Ajax coach would abandon his plan in an effort to be cautious and guarantee that regular points would still be earned.

However, Ten Hag stuck to his convictions, and the squad suffered as a result. The team lost badly to several underdog teams, and their confidence kept eroding.

After their agreement was approved, INEOS made it plain that the manager would have to follow the recruiting authority of the CEO and follow the style selected by the backroom staff.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still reviewing the season, and Ten Hag is still waiting to hear more about his future. Because of the FA Cup victory, it would have been more expensive to fire him, but supporters have also pleaded for him to be kept in his position given the dearth of excellent managerial choices.

The only two realistic candidates are Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, as Kieran McKenna has chosen to remain at Ipswich Town. There are also circulating links between Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate.

The Argentine has had difficulty in his recent managing responsibilities, while the German has a poor record when it comes to dealing with those in authority. From the perspective of a fan, the final two appointments would be unimpressive.

INEOS meeting replacements

But as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano pointed out, INEOS continue to speak to potential replacements despite maintaining in public that they are conducting a season review.

“The internal review is still ongoing, so Erik ten Hag is waiting for Manchester United to communicate their decision. Let’s see as also in the last three to four days, I’m hearing that Manchester United had new conversations with some agents and representatives of other managers.

“So the situation remains quite open. I think they are assessing all the potential options in order to decide whether it’s better to continue with Ten Hag or go for another manager,” Romano told Givemesport.

A decision was expected this week and all eyes are on Sir Jim. United cannot afford to keep dilly-dallying with this major decision as it is affecting their transfer business as well.
