O’Rourke: ‘Massive’ Man United U-turn on the cards after Ten Hag sack update

After Man United’s results in the Premier League this past season, senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated in an interview with the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that it would be a “big surprise” if the Dutchman stayed at the club.

After defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final, the Red Devils administration will decide whether to keep Ten Hag on board or let him go after a comprehensive season evaluation.

The 54-year-old’s future has come under scrutiny, according to O’Rourke, as there is growing support for him to stay with the team past this summer. This is because of his success at Wembley.

Erik ten Hag could be sacked by Man United after season review

After joining Man United from Ajax in 2022 and leading them to a third-place finish, Ten Hag enjoyed a respectable first season in the Premier League.

The Dutchman’s second season was mostly disappointing, as the Red Devils finished outside of the European spots in the Premier League and were eliminated from Europe in the group stages.

However, the FA Cup triumph has covered over his bad year. According to O’Rourke, Ten Hag might be granted a “stay of execution” if the newly appointed government, headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, determines that no qualified candidate is available to succeed him.

Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are in the frame for the job, but former Red Devils coach Kieran McKenna is now out of the running after signing a new contract with Ipswich Town.
