Pundit explains why manager who won league on Saturday ‘will leave’ if Man United offer job

Do Manchester United want a bold young tactician or a proven winner, if the Ineos axe does indeed fall upon Erik ten Hag?

Do they opt for a Thiago Motta or Roberto de Zerbi, for example? Or perhaps a Thomas Tuchel; a more transient, fast fix, certainly, but a man able to bring success and medals to Old Trafford right away while Sir Jim Ratcliffe and associates worked behind the scenes to arrange a long-term overhaul?

Naturally, that is just one of the countless questions Ineos has to respond to in advance of what promises to be a summer filled with significant changes at Old Trafford—not just on the field but off it as well.

WhileManchester United‘s new decision makers are reportedly still planning ahead with Ten Hag in mind, Monday’s latest humiliation – that 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace – was certainly not a good luck for a coach who is starting to lose support amongst even the more patient members of the Red Devils fanbase.

Manchester United must make Erik ten Hag decision

Ten Hag’s replacement, if one is selected at all, might inherit a Man United team that is still nursing wounds from their worst-ever Premier League season, which saw them suffer a record 13 losses and give up the most goals since 1977.

The Telegraph claims that one of the numerous names supposedly on Man United’s radar has experience reconstructing a dressing room, mending a culture, and reviving a sleeping giant deprived of success.

Sporting Lisbon was lurching toward a fourth-place finish in Portugal’s premier division in 2020, when they made Ruben Amorim the third-most expensive manager in football history. A year later, Amorim improved Sporting’s point total by 25 and led them to their first domestic championship in 20 years.

Then, this season, the former Braga coach pulled off the same ruse, winning another Primeira Liga championship last weekend. Furthermore, Diamantino Miranda is quite certain that Amorim’s position would significantly soften if Man United were to hand him the keys to the Red Devils machine, even if the player has since apologized to the team for his intentions to remain in Lisbon and spoken out about his intentions to stay in Lisbon.

Ruben Amorim worked wonders at Sporting Lisbon

“If it turns out that if it’s true, that Manchester United are interested in Ruben Amorim, there’s no shortage of money,” Benfica icon Miranda, capped 22 times by Portugal in the 1980s, tells Futebol365. “And I think Amorim has all the conditions.

“Not least because of what he’s already done, not least because he’s going to leave Sporting on a high note.

“I have no great problem accepting that Ruben Amorim will leave if this offer from Manchester United is true. It is a club that is in need of a major overhaul. That’s what Ruben Amorim did at Sporting.

“It’s true the scale is very different, but Amorim was able to prove himself at Sporting. He can do that (at Manchester United).”

As per The Telegraph, Ineos believes that Amorim, who possesses a £13 million release clause in his contract, is among the numerous innovative and dynamic young strategists available in the European market.

Thiago Motta, who guided Bologna to Champions League qualification, and Michel, who guided Girona to a first-ever top-four finish in Spain, are both well-liked at Man United.
