‘Really keen’: Fabrizio Romano says manager Pep Guardiola called ‘one of the best’ now wants the Man United job

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one manager is ‘really keen’ to become the next Manchester United boss.

Erik ten Hag’s future is still up for debate among the Red Devils. Although it appeared as though the Dutchman would be let go, the FA Cup victory over Manchester City appears to have postponed that decision.

Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is still up in the air, but if they decide to fire him, they will need to find a very, very better player to take his place.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Thomas Tuchel and Manchester United

For a few months now, Thomas Tuchel has been connected to a transfer to Manchester United. After just over a year in charge at the Allianz Arena, the German has departed Bayern Munich.

Vincent Kompany has taken his place there. Tuchel is currently looking for a new challenge, and in April, it was reported that he was “open” to speaking with Manchester United about the position.

A month prior, rumours circulated that the fifty-year-old, who can envision himself going back to Chelsea, would prefer to sign with Manchester United.

Now that talks about Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford are still ongoing, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tuchel’s position.

The journalist has revealed that the German is ready to return to the Premier League and that he would be ‘really keen’ on becoming Manchester United’s next manager.

Romano said in his Daily Briefing: “In case United part ways with Ten Hag, there are several candidates that could replace him. The Red Devils have already spoken with several agents, but I can also say that Thomas Tuchel would be really keen on returning to the Premier League.

“Tuchel is super keen on coming back to England and he knows that this is a new project at Old Trafford now, even if there’s no Champions League for the club next season.

“Tuchel won the competition at Chelsea, of course, and reached the final with Paris Saint-Germain, but he’d still be really keen on taking the United job even without the Champions League.

“So, Tuchel is ready, let’s see what United will decide on the manager situation, but potentially the next days will be crucial to have an answer on that, and then they can prepare for the summer transfer window.”

What Pep Guardiola has said about Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola have faced off on several occasions in the past; the German has a poor record against the Manchester City manager, winning just three of their 12 meetings.

Nevertheless, Tuchel prevailed over Guardiola in the game that mattered most, the Champions League final in May 2021, where Chelsea defeated City to win the title.

Speaking about that defeat in April 2023, ahead of a game against Tuchel’s Bayern Munich, Guardiola told Manchester City’s official website: “Tuchel is one of the best managers for sure and has done really well everywhere.

“Champions League, in Paris and England. It will be a pleasure to see him again. I congratulated him [after the Champions League final].

“It happens. You lose games and you win games, you lose games, we lost it. We are here again, we try it again.”
