Report: Manchester United hold concrete talks over deal for Bundesliga-winning defender

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutchman has been a key part of a Leverkusen side that recently clinched the Bundesliga title with a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Frimpong has started 24 of his 28 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.

Those contributions have helped Frimpong accumulate a total of 12 goals and 11 assists across 38 competitive matches this term.

Having impressed for Xabi Alonso‘s side, the 23-year-old has emerged as a potential target for a number of top Premier League clubs.

Man United’s search for a new right-back

Man United are seemingly keen to recruit a new defender to provide competition to their first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot.

The 25-year-old, who has also been used as a left-back, has started 29 of Man United’s 32 Premier League games this season, contributing one goal and three assists.

Dalot’s current deputy Aaron Wan-Bissaka has struggled with injury this term and could be allowed to leave the club this summer.

Frimpong would provide a greater attacking threat than Wan-Bissaka, having played as a wing-back for the majority of Leverkusen’s title-winning season.

However, Frimpong has previously shown that he can operate in a slightly deeper role as a traditional full-back.
