Report: Manchester United initiate talks over out-of-work manager, Sir Alex Ferguson called him ‘fantastic’

Manchester United won the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon but the question marks surrounding the future of boss Erik ten Hag continue.

Prior to their matchup with Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday, United had to put an end to all whispers and conjecture.

Even though there were rumours that Ten Hag might be fired, United put up what was possibly their greatest performance of the year.

Speaking of saving the best for last, United won 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to cap off the season with their 13th FA Cup.

Over the past 24 hours, there has been nothing but celebration—appreciating the performances of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, celebrating Raphael Varane’s last game for the team, and thanking Ten Hag for, yes, a tactical masterclass against Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City.

Yet once the dust has settled and the champagne bottles have run dry, Ten Hag’s future will again come into focus – and the reports are already starting up again.

Manchester United hold Mauricio Pochettino talks

Even though the United team and staff are likely still enjoying Saturday’s success, rumours are still swirling.

According to The Telegraph, United has held discussions with Mauricio Pochettino’s representatives, with Ineos expressing a strong desire to work with him.

Just a few days ago, Pochettino made headlines when Chelsea abruptly decided to break things off with the Argentinian.

Now that Pochettino is unemployed, United has communicated with his team to see if he would be interested in moving to Old Trafford.

According to the article, Pochettino was there at Sir Dave Brailsford’s birthday celebration earlier this year, the CEO of Ineos.

Sir Alex Ferguson has also given his backing to Pochettino in the past, praising him as ‘fantastic’ following his work at Tottenham Hotspur.

Thomas Tuchel thinks he’s got the job

The article also states that with Thomas Tuchel’s tenure at Bayern Munich nearing to an end, United has “sounded out representatives” of the German coach.

It is understood that United are unsure if Tuchel is truly the best candidate for the position. With Chelsea, Tuchel won the Champions League in 2021, but with Bayern, he struggled and missed out on the Bundesliga championship.

The former Chelsea manager has managed large clubs in the Premier League, has expertise managing elite teams, and has excelled under Pep Guardiola in the past.

That’s nothing to laugh at, and these most recent stories appear to be contradictory. The Telegraph claims that Tuchel believes he has been hired by United, however The Mirror claims that Tuchel is unsure about the position.

They state that Tuchel believes that he will become the new United boss this summer with even Bayern believing that he is Old Trafford-bound.

These reports offering conflicting information but with Tuchel and Pochettino both being heavily linked, there is a chance that United end up replacing Ten Hag with a former Chelsea manager.
