Report: Manchester United join Manchester City in race for wonderkid midfielder compared to Paul Pogba

Manchester United are set for a major culture change as Ineos head towards their first transfer window since taking charge of football operations at Old Trafford.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company joined United, significant changes have already been made.

Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox have already been signed, and Dan Ashworth of Newcastle United is anticipated to follow later.

Supporters of United anticipate a busy summer transfer window, and Ineos will undoubtedly alter the hiring strategy.

Simply said, United has squandered far too much money in the past, and Ineos will want to stop spending money on players who are probably past their peak.

Raphael Varane and Casemiro’s contracts haven’t held up well, therefore Ineos will undoubtedly concentrate on acquiring younger players in their place.

Building around the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund should be a priority and another prospect is now being linked with United.

Manchester United want Assan Ouedraogo

According to German Fussball News, United is reportedly interested in signing Assan Ouedraogo, a talented Schalke player.

Before the summer transfer window opens, it is rumored that United has sent scouts to have a “closer look” at 17-year-old Ouedraogo.

But United is not the only team interested; teams in Italy and Germany are also interested, as are Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Despite playing 109 minutes in 2024, Ouedraogo has only made four appearances since the end of October.

Because of this, it has been challenging for scouts to get a close look at Ouedraogo, despite the fact that he did score in an April 1-1 tie against Hannover 96.

After being demoted from the Bundesliga the previous year, Schalke is currently languishing in 12th place in the second division, barely five points above the drop zone.

After losing to United in the 2011 Champions League semifinals, Schalke is currently having financial difficulties and will need to raise money.

One option to assist balance the finances would be to sell Ouedraogo, and United could be a possible destination.

Who is Schalke talent Ouedraogo?

Ouedraogo is the son of Alassane Ouedraogo, a former international for Burkina Faso who played for clubs including Charleroi, Koln, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, and TuS Koblenz.

As a result, the teenage Ouedraogo is eligible to represent Burkina Faso in youth competitions, but he has thus far opted to represent Germany.

At the age of eight, Ouedraogo moved to Schalke from his hometown club, Union Mulheim.

With 15 senior games this season, 6′ 4″ tall Ouedraogo has now established himself as a main player for Schalke.

This season, Ouedraogo has contributed two goals and one assist in Germany’s second division.

A tall, box-to-box midfield player, Ouedraogo has been likened to Paul Pogba – a comparison which will probably excite and scare United fans in equal measure.

Ineos may see Ouedraogo as a top prospect for the future but whether United are ready to make a move this summer remain to be seen.
