Report: Senior Ineos officials have now picked their top target to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Just 24 hours after the 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, Manchester United fans saw two former players reach the Champions League final on Tuesday night.

Borussia Dortmund’s victory against Paris Saint-Germain gave United’s season just the extra kick in the stomach it needed.

Dortmund advances to the Champions League final with a 2-0 aggregate score thanks to their 1-0 victory in Paris.

Starting in midfield, Marcel Sabitzer—whose loan at United ended somewhat quietly last summer—watched as Jadon Sancho carried on with his comeback.

It has been that kind of season for United, as Sancho, who spent the first half of the season as an outsider, is now in the Champions League.

After a 2-2 tie in the first leg, Bayern Munich travels to the Spanish capital to play Real Madrid in the other semifinal match.

United won’t have Champions League football to look forward to next season, but Ineos will have one eye on that clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Thomas Tuchel to Manchester United latest

Erik ten Hag came under increasing pressure following Monday’s 4-0 thrashing against Crystal Palace, and there are already increasing reports of a possible management change at Old Trafford.

Even with an unparalleled defensive injury crisis, Ineos will not tolerate such losses, and Ten Hag is truly fighting for his future at United.

According to iNews, Thomas Tuchel is starting to gain ground on Ten Hag as the favorite to take his place this summer.

In an attempt to make it to the Champions League final three times in the previous five seasons, Tuchel takes his Bayern team into fight against Real tonight.

That is an incredible record, and even if Tuchel’s tenure at Bayern hasn’t gone as planned—he missed out on winning the Bundesliga—his accomplishments in Europe cannot be discounted.

Senior Ineos officials reportedly saw Tuchel as the “front-runner” to succeed Ten Hag as United’s manager in the event that Ten Hag is fired.

The “frontrunner” for United, Tuchel is believed to be eager to return to England after been fired by Chelsea in 2022.

Tuchel’s departure from Bayern is already confirmed for this summer, which might give Ineos the opportunity to try and set up a move. However, that might not become clear until Bayern’s Champions League fate is confirmed.

Tuchel’s previous Premier League experience and his numerous years of coaching at the top of the European game will make hims very appealing to Ineos.

The German is a big name and Ineos are seemingly viewing him as a frontrunner – but only they know if they really plan to move on from Ten Hag or not.

Ruben Amorim still in the mix

The report notes that Sporting boss Ruben Amorim may not be out of the running just yet.

Amorim has been mentioned for the United job in the past but seemingly ruled himself out in recent days.

“I’m staying at Sporting,” said Amorim. “I’m under contract and it’s a special moment for me, for the club. Now we will try to win the third title together. Let’s try to make it happen,” he added.

Although it appeared as though Amorim was pledging his future to Sporting, iNews says that we should proceed cautiously after reading those remarks.

According to a Portuguese source, Amorim is purportedly attempting to mend his connection with irate Sporting fans after he traveled for negotiations with West Ham United.

Although it might seem that United’s move for Amorim is too huge for him to reject, his remarks suggest that he could stay longer if no offer is made.

It’s amazing to see Amorim, who is regarded as one of the best young managers in the game, win a second league title as Sporting’s manager.

The 39-year-old seems to be behind Tuchel in the Ineos plans but is worth keeping an eye on, just in case he can actually be lured away from Sporting after all.
