Report: Sir Jim Ratcliffe has just decided he won’t pay a penny more than £55m for ‘superstar’ Man United target

Manchester United have just decided the maximum amount they are willing to pay for one of their summer transfer targets.

The season has been incredibly disappointing for the Red Devils. They are probably going to finish ninth in the Premier League after winning just 17 of their 37 games.

That is obviously insufficient, and they will require reinforcements during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

Manchester United make final decision on Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite have been strongly linked.

At Goodison Park, the 21-year-old has had an incredible season. They may argue that he is their finest player, and this summer, he will almost certainly be in high demand.

Manchester United needs to bolster their defense.

Harry Maguire may be shown the door along with Raphael Varane, who has declared he is quitting the club.

The Red Devils must prioritize finding a new center-back, and Branthwaite would be a great choice for them this summer.

GiveMeSport, however, reports that Manchester United has no intention of matching Everton’s asking price of £80 million for their star defense.

According to the source, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team has determined that they will only spend a maximum of £55 million for Branthwaite this summer, however they would want to complete the transaction for £50 million.

This summer, Branthwaite’s contract, which he has played 40 games for Everton in all competitions this season, will come to an end after three years.

Jarrad Braithwaite’s defensive stats compared to Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane

One of the Premier League’s most outstanding young defenders this year has been Jarrad Branthwaite, of Everton.

On Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher even went so far as to refer to him as a “superstar” (February 26, 2024).

1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, and 4.4 clearances are averaged by the 21-year-old each game. In addition, he recovers the ball 5.3 times on average every 90 minutes and has not made an error that has resulted in a goal this season. (SofaScore)

Conversely, Harry Maguire makes only 3.5 ball recoveries while averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 3.8 clearances per game. (SofaScore)

World Cup winner Raphael Varane averages 0.9 tackles, 4.1 clearances, and 0.7 interceptions per ninety minutes. Despite having 4.1 more ball recoveries than Maguire, he is still unable to match Branthwaite. (SofaScore)

Branthwaite is a player Manchester United should be targeting, and as he is still only 21 years old, he will improve significantly over the next several years.

It is unclear, though, if Everton would permit his departure for less than £55 million.
