Robbie Savage names manager he would ‘definitely’ pick as Erik ten Hag’s replacement

He sees one ideal candidate.

Robbie Savage, a former midfielder for Leicester City, believes that Kieran McKenna is Manchester United’s finest Erik ten Hag replacement.

Ten Hag led United to victory over Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley over the weekend to win the FA Cup, but the fact that the team ended seventh in the league does not change.

United’s performance in the Champions League was lacklustre as they were eliminated in the group stages, while their play was wildly variable in the Premier League.

Ten Hag’s future is rumoured to be uncertain because the FA Cup outcome was supposedly considered unimportant prior to the match.

McKenna, a former United coach, has impressed at Ipswich Town after guiding them into the Premier League with automatic promotion, and he is linked to vacancies at Stamford Bridge, Brighton and potentially at Old Trafford.

Savage backed him as a potential replacement for Ten Hag.

“If Erik ten Hag leaves this summer, then I’d like Kieran McKenna to replace him,” he told Planet Sport Bet .

“A lot of people will want them to go for someone who has already proven themselves at a big club and he is yet to do that, but he’s learnt his trade the hard way and he’s the best option for them right now. They’ve had huge names before in Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, so why not give an opportunity to a young, up and coming coach who knows the club.

“He’ll work well under a sporting director and he’s definitely the manager I’d go for – even more so if they wait until Christmas to replace Ten Hag. Then McKenna will have the experience of half a Premier League campaign under his belt and they can see how he gets on.”
