Talks held: Manchester United star called a “joke” vs Palace may leave; Ratcliffe wants him gone

Manchester United may finally be ready to cash in on one of their stars after another terrible performance against Crystal Palace, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself said to be keen on parting ways ahead of the new Premier League season.

Red Devils thrashed in South London

Manchester United collapsed once more on Monday night at Selhurst Park against a revitalized Crystal Palace under Oliver Glasner. Following the injury to Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Casemiro formed the core of the United defense, with Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo mainly acting as spectators in front of them for the majority of the match.

Michael Olise, a Manchester United target, is said to have done the most damage for the Eagles. He initially broke through United’s defense with a fantastic solo effort before emphatically finishing off the scoring shortly after the hour mark.

For Erik ten Hag and his group, it broke records, but not in a good way. They have given up 81 goals this season, more than any other United team since the Premier League’s inception. The only other season they have given up more goals was 1976–1977.

After yet another courageous effort by his team, Ten Hag will be worried about his future as their 13 Premier League losses are the most for any Red Devils team since 1989–1990. He won’t be the only person put on the cutting board, for sure.

Ratcliffe wants high earner out

It has now been revealed that Casemiro, who has obviously fallen through the ranks during his tenure at Old Trafford, may be one of the casualties of the fire sale this summer. Although the 32-year-old’s £350,000-per-week contract at the Theatre of Dreams still has two years left on it, he and Ratcliffe seem to be of the opinion that his time with the team is drawing to an end.

He received flak for his performance, especially against Palace, and was called a “joke” on Monday Night Football by Jamie Carragher. Now, it looks like everyone will get their wish: according to TeamTALK, Casemiro is “open to taking on a new challenge elsewhere” and United executives are “trying to find a buyer” for the Brazilian.

Given that the story also states that he has turned into “a top target for the entire Saudi Pro League” and that internal talks are underway to determine which club to assign him to, it appears that Saudi Arabia may be that destination.

Manchester United’s highest earners
Player Wages (per week) Contract until
Casemiro £350,000 2026
Raphael Varane £340,000 2024
Marcus Rashford £300,000 2028
Anthony Martial £250,000 2024
Mason Mount £250,000 2028

When that has been decided, they are expected to discuss personal terms with the veteran, before approaching Manchester United for his signature, though the Red Devils are keen to recoup around £30m from any sale.

However, with the wages he is on and the performances being put up, they might just be better accepting any offer and moving on.
