United in “front line” for Danish genius as Portuguese champions set asking price for his transfer – report

The manager of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim, is attempting to prevent Morten Hjulmand from being sold because he believes he is too valuable to lose this summer.

Due to the Dane’s impressive performances in Portugal and United’s obvious midfield issues, the Red Devils have been linked to the player.

After one of the worst seasons of his career, if not the worst, Casemiro has been linked to a move away from Old Trafford—likely to Saudi Arabia.

When Sofyan Amrabat’s loan agreement expires at the end of the month, it appears likely that the player will be returned to Fiorentina, leaving his future similarly uncertain.

Due to this, United’s defensive midfield position is noticeably exposed, and they have been rumoured to be interested in signing the Dane.

June is aware that the player is a top target, and during a recent interview, he expressed his wish to play in the Premier League while gushing about Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United.

However, according to sources from the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, Rúben Amorim does not want to lose Morten Hjulmand despite “intense” interest from rival clubs, considering him “essential for the next season.”

According to the source, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Barcelona are “in the front line” to recruit the 24-year-old, and they will “count on” his desire to play in the Premier League to try and persuade him to leave.

Sporting, however, is apparently unwilling to sell or relocate unless his €80 million release clause is fulfilled.

Interestingly, the Portuguese newspaper Record also confirmed this story, stating that they would not entertain any further discussions and that any interested parties would need to consult the release clause.

There’s always the chance that the player would insist on moving, or maybe a good showing for Denmark at the Euros will persuade more teams to participate in an auction for him.

If that happens, Sporting might be tempted to sell below the clause if they can still make a good deal. However, United would have to decide which player they think they need more after hearing rumours that they are also vying for Joao Neves at Benfica.

Moreover, INEOS reportedly will not allow the club to spend more than £60 million on one player, which if true would clearly make it impossible to meet Hjulmand’s release clause.
