United not messing about as they submit blockbuster €60m bid for in-demand teenage sensation – report

After surrendering 85 goals in all competitions last time out, Manchester United’s defence clearly needs to be strengthened in this area by the new co-owners.

When Jonny Evans’s current contract expires in June, it’s possible he won’t sign a new one. Raphael Varane has already declared his exit.

Given that Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also reportedly free agents, it seems obvious that the Red Devils will aim to get a right-footed centre back.

Many names have been connected to a move to Old Trafford, but according to Marca, the 20-time English league champions have made the initial €60 million offer for Leny Yoro of Lille.

Yoro bid

The young defender’s impressive performances for his team, Lille, which secured fourth place in Ligue 1 despite giving up the third fewest goals in the league, have drawn the attention of Europe’s top players.

Yoro scored three goals and contributed to 20 clean sheets across all competitions, placing him in the top 7% of passers completed (fbref).

Real Madrid is also competing, but they haven’t acted yet, which has allowed INEOS to emerge victorious in the race for the much sought-after 18-year-old.

Los Blancos are counting on the player’s desire to wear white and are praying that enticing offers won’t change their mind. The opportunity exists for United to seal a smash-and-grab deal for the highly sought-after centre back.

“The English club has put a proposal above the market value on the table for the 18-year-old footballer and are willing to accept some of the claims that Lille have set to close the operation and which point to a value close to 60 million euros.

“Real Madrid are clear and want to sign the centre-back, but they have already told the player and his agent that they have to wait, and that they have to resist the temptation of a higher offer if they really want to wear white.”

INEOS mean business

There have been rumours that Paris Saint-Germain is almost ready to sign the France U23 international.

If this report is accurate, it appears that was not entirely the case. The player’s agent is still in contact with the Spanish behemoths, but PSG is also a possibility.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of twists and turns in this race. As rumours of bids being made for their targets persist, INEOS is demonstrating their seriousness. The Red Devils made their initial bid for Joao Neves of Benfica known yesterday.

It remains to be seen if Lille accept or if Real manage to win the race. One thing is good to see from a United perspective, unlike previous seasons, the club are not wasting time in the market and are making their moves quite early on.
