‘Would relish the challenge’: Man United told to ditch Ten Hag and hire 61-year-old who’d really ‘galvanise’ the team

Manchester United could yet salvage something from this season, but for the most part it’s not been a good campaign for the Red Devils.

Though it was a difficult journey to the FA Cup final for Man United—they nearly lost to Championship team Coventry City in the semi-finals after they overcame a three-goal deficit—they are now in the finals for the second consecutive season.

Not holding back, pundit Alan Shearer declared after the game that he believed Ten Hag’s future was “already determined” and that winning the coveted competition “is not going to be enough” to keep him in his position.

Several managers, notably Ruben Amorim, Graham Potter, and Thomas Tuchel, have been connected to the Manchester United position.

On the other hand, there have also been demands for one of the former Red Devils’ managers to be appointed again.

Stan Collymore is the most recent supporter of Jose Mourinho, the manager in question, for the Old Trafford position.

Recently, Jamie O’Hara suggested that Manchester United make a move to acquire the 61-year-old, and Collymore has now endorsed the notion.

What has Stan Collymore said about Manchester United and Jose Mourinho?

Collymore wrote on CaughtOffside: “I thought Jose Mourinho getting the United job when he did was completely the wrong move.

“Attack, attack, attack was United’s history but the ‘Special One’ arrived and we saw the dark arts, ****housery and sometimes turgid football in an era of progressive coaches like Pep and Klopp.

“But now, it’s a whole new ball game.

“United need a leader again, someone willing to create an identity and a style of play, even if it’s not the most exciting. A style that competes, wins and weeds out the weak and immature.

“I’m increasingly coming round to the fact that one man in world football still has that ability to galvanise and who would relish the challenge. His name? Jose Mourinho.”

Mourinho didn’t perform badly at Manchester United in terms of trophies, but by the end, things had soured, and the team could really use a change.

Returning to a prior supervisor frequently doesn’t work out. It implies that the Red Devils have run out of ideas and are no longer competitive in the market for a top new manager, and that he will be evaluated based on his track record of success with the team.

It would be wiser for Manchester United to choose a manager who hasn’t led them before and can begin from scratch. The team may be having difficulties, but they undoubtedly have the status to attract a major player.

Manchester United could also do with someone who could just ruthlessly clean house, even if that means a few years in the wilderness. A Mikel Arteta-type manager, for instance (obviously not Arteta himself but someone along those lines).
