Among Manchester United’s summer midfield shortlist is one familiar face, who they’re seemingly keeping as an alternative to fall back on.
It’s been widely speculated ever since he made the temporary move last summer that Sofyan Amrabat would jump at the chance to sign for United permanently, which remained an option throughout the majority of last season due to the buy clause inserted into his deal.
However, towards the closing stages of 2023/2024, speculation began to emerge suggesting that the club would opt against activating the £21.4 million option. He has since returned to Fiorentina for pre-season but remains a candidate if INEOS fail to adequately bolster Erik ten Hag’s midfield depth.
Pocketing a modest £30,000 per week, Amrabat could prove to be a low-cost addition to the team – especially given that the Serie A outfit are unlikely to set a high valuation after he just entered the final 12 months of his contract.
