English media slams Kobbie Mainoo as “average player” in Slovakia win

The usually brutal British press had nothing but words of praise for Kobbie Mainoo, given how well he carried himself in the dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Slovakia.
Till the 95th minute, Slovakia looked certain to win after getting an early 1-0 lead in the Euro 2024 last-16 tie.
England never looked threatening enough until Jude Bellingham pulled off an incredible bicycle kick to equalise. Harry Kane added another one in extra time and that was that.
The Independent hailed Mainoo as ‘refreshing’ while The Standard named him ‘England’s brightest player by a mile’.
The Sun went one step further to call him a ‘shining light’, which he was till he was substituted in the 83rd minute.
The Manchester United midfielder kept calm and made a good number of forward passes to connect with the attack.
Even when Slovakia dominated play, Mainoo often produced moments of magic to put England in the front seat. The 19-year-old attempted a shot on goal, created one goalscoring chance and also nearly won a penalty.
